If I wasn't turning a bit early, I wasn't getting my fingers under the ball, causing a lot of balls that just didn't flip. My spare ball on the left side seemed to back up, and I was told this was because of more conditioner in the middle of the lane.

It probably wasn't backing up, it was probably just not hooking, while you're used to it hooking a little bit.
